Rethinking Workspaces: Strategic Advantages Due to Clever Interior Design

Have you ever thought about why having the right space for your work is so crucial? In agrarian society, this was still perfectly clear, and the post-industrialisation era also grasped the importance of space. The transition between these two spheres was also a spatial one. Today, in the age of knowledge work, this connection often seems invisible. The modern information society likes to revolve around itself, around its mobile working and forgets how important space really is for our work. Without space, there is no work.

The manifesto “We call it work” published in 2006 (authors: Holm Friebe and > Sascha Lobo) has partly remained a prophecy and at the same time has somehow been overtaken by reality. Curiously, even hybrid labour still gives some people the shivers after all these years.

In their presentation, Christian Beinke und Erkan Karakoç want to re-establish the connection between space and work in the context of an organisation. If space has an influence on the results of work, it must also be considered strategically. What potential for differentiation does it offer? How should an organisation’s space be designed to support its strategy? There is more to this than just employee branding. Christian and Erkan explore the question of how to find the right space for strategic alignment of your organisation. No more spaces that are created by builders “because that’s the way it’s done” or that are designed by “new work coaches” to fit a social ideal. The space must fit the work. But to work that is strategically prioritised.
