Time to think outside the box! The hype is over, AI is becoming a reality. In this panel discussion, digitalisation expert Prof. Dr. Herbert Schuster, Julia Schmid and Andreas Stieglbauer from Drees & Sommer discuss the future of AI in the world of work and its use in building and office space planning.
They talked about user-centred spaces and places, data-driven decision-making and the importance of the human component when using technology in an increasingly digitalised (working) world. The discussion touched on current challenges such as skills shortages, cost pressures and resistance to change. Prof. Dr. Schuster, for example, can imagine not automatically transferring all tasks that could be performed by artificial intelligence to it, but rather involving the people concerned in the decision-making process. In general, all three panellists agreed that in the short to medium term, AI will relieve employees of analytical and repetitive tasks, thus creating scope for the use of human soft skills. In terms of workspaces, this means that social areas will become more important. A team at Drees & Sommer is currently developing and training AI for use in building and interior design so that planners can fully develop their creativity.
