Robert Thiemann is a design leader, editor and strategist with more than 25 years of experience shaping discourse around design and the built environment. He is the co-founder and former editor-in-chief ofFRAME, one of the world’s leading design publications, where he helped frame global conversations on retail, workplace, hospitality and living environments, and oversaw the evolution of the FRAME Awards into a respected international programme.

After FRAME, Robert founded BETTERNESS, a strategic design consultancy focused on helping brands and organisations create future-ready environments grounded in wellbeing, adaptability, sustainability, and cultural relevance.

At Material Bank, he leads editorial and content strategy across digital, social, and thought leadership—strengthening the platform’s voice, sharpening its point of view, and building authority through insight-driven storytelling that connects material intelligence with what’s next
