Have you ever thought about why having the right space for your work is so crucial? In agrarian society, this was still perfectly clear, and the post-industrialisation era also grasped the importance of space. The transition between these two spheres was also a spatial one. Today, in the age of knowledge work, this connection often seems invisible. The modern information society likes to revolve around itself, around its mobile working and forgets how important space really is for our work. Without space, there is no work.
In their presentation, Christian Beinke and Erkan Karakoç analysed how knowledge workers work and which archetypes have emerged in dealing with hybrid work.
1. PROTECT ORGANISATION with a culture of presence as an important success factor and hybrid work to ensure its own attractiveness as an employer.
2. OPTIMIZE PERFORMANCE with a strong focus on learning and improvement. Hybrid work is a means to an end: a performance boost driven by middle management.
3. EMPOWER PEOPLE with decentralised organisation as the central goal and hybrid work as an accelerator for New Work.
In each case, space is used as a strategic tool. Using the example of Digital Schmelze Schott AG, Erkan Karakoç and Christian Beinke showed how spaces can positively influence corporate goals and what the planning process could look like.
