The Future Workplace: From Designing Stuff to Designing Relations

“In a world of ‘work-life blending’, it is important for us as designers to look at the office as a space of possibility and to design these exciting interfaces – the in-between. After all, it is these open spaces that can release incredible energy and it’s the spaces in between that have the most potential to create something new – because innovation always takes place at the boundaries.”

Our idea of work is changing rapidly: How will we work in the future? In his talk, Peter Ippolito takes a future-oriented look at key questions and examples. While the design of working environments still includes forms, products and spaces, the real challenge lies in the relationships and opportunities arising there. The added value of physical space must constantly be reinvented in the workplace. So, what role will the office play in the future? Why do we even go there? How can we see the contrast between living and working as part of the whole? Instead of office spaces, create living-working spaces – places where health, encounters and lifelong learning are central. Ippolito calls on architects and designers to question conventional concepts and develop creative solutions that go beyond the conventional understanding of workspaces.
