Acoustics planning with OFML data

A special application for OFML data is the acoustics plug-in. This extension of pCon.planner 6 PRO — the most widely used planning software in the office furniture sector — combines the planning of office furniture with the forecasting of the acoustic parameters of rooms.


Function

The special plug-in and expansion of the OFML data enable the following information that is relevant for acoustics planning to be

  • Room volume
  • Surface data (size and location/arrangement of the perimeter surfaces and the furnishings)
  • Sound absorption properties of the surfaces (in octaves)

directly exported from the furnishing plans.

A specifically programmed Excel tool makes it possible to estimate the reverberation time for further processing. It thus enables planners to calculate the most important value for the acoustic planning of office rooms and to determine the potential for optimizing acoustic comfort.

Alternatively, the data can be imported into acoustic planning systems for making further calculations and conducting simulations. This can be currently done with the software CadnaR.

The main advantage of the acoustics plug-in compared to the customarily used acoustic planning tools is that it combines the planning of the furnishings with the calculation of key acoustic values. The plug-in does not require users to register the furnishings all over again. Besides saving time, it enables the information from the estimation of the reverberation time to be taken into account when the furnishings are planned. This prevents any possible weak points in the planning.


Development and sales

The acoustics plug-in was developed in cooperation with EasternGraphics GmbH and EasternGraphics GmbH. The project was supported and funded by the members of the Industrial Association of Office and Working Environments e.V. (IBA).

The acoustics plug-in is sold by wegscheider office solution gmbh.


Potential buyers need to successfully complete a user training course before they can acquire the acoustics plug-in. Information about this course is provided by the manufacturers who use OFML data as well as by wegscheider office solution gmbh.
