Designed for Circularity: the Evolution of the Bow Chair

How can a furniture manufacturer improve the circularity of one of its long-standing and highly popular products — the Bow Chair? This challenge was addressed by the Spanish furniture manufacturer Forma 5 within the EU project R‑evolve.

The redesign not only increased the share of recycled materials and significantly improved the chair’s recyclability, but also led to an additional positive effect: the new Bow Chair is now considerably lighter. Philippe Segui from the company Forma 5 will present the development process and the results.

But what environmental benefits were achieved through this innovative redesign? Prof. Giovanni Dotelli from the Politecnico di Milano will provide insights into the environmental assessment carried out to evaluate the impacts of the new design.

As part of the R‑evolve project, additional furniture manufacturers will be selected and supported throughout 2027 and 2028 in improving the circularity of specific products within their portfolios.
