Room Acoustics: Update 2026

Room acoustics can be planned. Only a coordinated approach involving architecture, interior design, and room acoustic planning results in spaces with appropriate—and therefore good—acoustic quality. As working environments continue to evolve, the corresponding specifications, requirements, and recommendations must also be adapted. Habits and expectations are changing, making it necessary to reassess the current building and workplace regulations relating to room acoustics.

In his presentation, Dr. Christian Nocke provides an overview of the current state of office planning using 3D models, illustrated through recent planning examples. He also explains and discusses the relevant legal and regulatory framework. By the end of the year, a draft revision of DIN 18041, Acoustics – Audibility in Rooms, is expected and may be taken into consideration where applicable.
