Future-Proof Workspaces: Sustainable, Low-Emission Planning with Blauer Engel

Whether in the office, conference room or home office, workspaces are places where we spend many hours of our day. How they are designed and furnished affects not only our well-being, but also the environment, resource consumption and indoor air quality. This makes choosing the right products and materials all the more important – from flooring and wall paints to furniture.

How can workplaces and commercial interiors be designed to minimise emissions and harmful substances? How can products be identified that meet high standards of environmental and health protection while also being fit for purpose and of high quality?

Janine Braumann from the German Environment Agency and Mara Scheuermann from RAL gGmbH (the certification body for Blauer Engel) explain how Blauer Engel, the German Federal Government’s environmental label, can provide guidance to architects and planners on these questions, and how manufacturers can obtain Blauer Engel certification. They provide insights into the award criteria for products and materials that play a key role in office and conference environments and highlight which product groups currently carry the Blauer Engel label.
