Grey and cramped: this cliché of IT workplaces is still widespread. The designers at Brust + Partner wanted to change this. Their spatial design concept developed for Barmenia Insurance breaks through the stereotypes of boring, dusty insurance offices and IT departments.
For the creation of complex ideas, collaboration and communication are just as necessary as focus and concentration. With the aim of combining work and lifestyle and overcoming old clichés, a new type of new-work office space – the IT Arena – was created at Barmenia’s Wuppertal headquarters. It is part of the “New Way Of Insurance” project, or NWOI for short.
The once cramped, grey offices of the IT department were opened up to form a coherent area of approximately 1,500 m² and equipped with a varied interior. This way, various open spaces were zoned and retreats for concentrated work, meetings or creative relaxation were created.
Glass partitions in a coffered design ensure discretion without interrupting its spacious openness. Surface textures extend across the entire wall and floor design as well as seating areas. Oak wood, velvet, leather, coated ceramics, glass, steel, wallpaper and carpeting with varying patterns as well as foil cuts with references to IT and pop culture flank the multi-faceted interior concept of the planning and furnishing experts at Brust + Partner. This creates the homely, lifestyle-oriented new-work look that is typical of the NWOI.
